Boys Runner of the Year

The Redwood Empire had some very strong runners this year making the pick for Runner of the Year a tough one.
In the North Bay League we had two awesome runners in Maria Carrillo’s Ben Lawson and Windsor’s Lucas Chung who battled in the last three races with Lawson taking all three by a mere combined total of 4 seconds, some with come from behind victories.
From the Coastal Mountain Conference two Sonoma Academy runners shined bright with Kheva Mann taking six races this year including the Conference finals.
Teammate Andre Williams got a late start to the season, not eligible to compete until mid October, and although he did not have a single win this year did produce the single biggest race of the year when he finished 4th at State in division V.

But my pick for Boys Runner of the Year goes to Piner’s Jonny Vargas.
Vargas ran a solid season starting with a win at the Lagoon Valley Classic Invitational, followed by four more wins before being crown the Sonoma County League Champion.
He had the fastest time of the day at the NCS Championships with his 2nd place finish in division IV and ended the season with the second fastest Empire time of the day at state behind Williams big race.

Williams and Chung are both underclassman and will be back next year.
