Next year the NBL Redwood division will be up and running composed of Windsor, Rancho Cotate, Analy, Elsie Allen, Cardinal Newman and El Molino.
Here is a look at how those schools performed in their league finals. Places are based strictly on marks and do not take into all the other factors that would have changed the placings like wind and other things.
The first number listed is the athletes place in the finals they were actually in.
In 14 of the events for the boys and girls together none of these schools had a league champion in that event but of course one of them would have been crowned champion in this league.
Boys triple jump was the only event that had two champions in it.
In 12 events I did not find even six competitors
Not a single girl from these six schools had a vaulter clear opening height.
Some might look at this and think this league will just die out but I see it as a chance for these programs to really explode with excitement.
For many years now schools like Maria Carrillo and Petaluma and others have dominated in a way that these six schools, with the exception of the smallest, El Molino, knew going into the season that they had virtually no chance of a pennant and and very few of their kids would medal at the finals.
Now all of these schools have a shot at both if someone at these schools gets the word out that “hey we can win this”.
Now kids who would have been 15th in the finals and were just competing for personal pride, which is a great thing, are now also battling to score team points for their school.
Come on NBL Redwood prove me right. Get recruiting within your school even now. Make your 2019 team one of your biggest ever.
